The program provides free piano lessons to inner city children by bringing volunteer teachers into elementary schools. Volunteering with MHCPP will enable you to share your passion of music with children as well as distill a musical appreciation, help foster self-esteem and show children the value and rewards of practice and dedication. Staff at the elementary schools select students that have demonstrated interest in piano based on need and enthusiasm. Therefore children enrolled in the program will be just as excited to learn piano as you will be to teach it!
As a volunteer you will give weekly 30-minute private lessons to students in their respective school. Further, volunteers are expected to be present at MHCPP’s bi-annual recitals – one in November and one in April – where their students will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learnt over the semester to their parents/guardians and their peers. Our volunteers are enthusiastic, community-oriented young adults who serve as excellent role models for the students in the program.
